Get Gracefully Long, Lean and Healthy With Barre FITT
If you’ve ever wanted to have a long, lean ballerina’s body, our Barre FITT classes will help you make it happen. This mix of ballet-inspired barre training and Pilates helps you build balanced, flexible strength through focused movement.
Fitness doesn’t always have to be about pounding music and dripping sweat: Barre and Pilates both emphasize staying calm, centered and in touch with your body, building control and refinement as you gradually work up to more challenging exercises and learn to flow from one movement to the next.
What to Expect in Your Barre FITT Class
Don’t worry — you don’t have to get up in front of the class and dance! There’s no need to wear a leotard and tights either, although it’s helpful if you wear clothing that lets your instructor see the lines of your body; yoga-wear works well. Plan to be barefoot.
You’re more likely to hear classical music than the latest pop hits in a Barre FITT class, but that doesn’t mean you’re not going to sweat: bring a water bottle and an extra warm-up layer that you can zip out of as your body warms up.
You’ll use the ballet bar as a prop for balance and positioning as the teacher guides you through high-repetition, ballet-inspired exercises in a small, specific range of motion. It’s all about attention to detail as you lean, gesture and stretch yourself into a dancer’s fit, toned body. Barre FITT classes also incorporate typical Pilates props like mats, balls and straps or bands, along with isometric exercises (creating muscle tension without actually moving your joints) and fine-tuned core workouts that encourage proper alignment, balance of movement, and mind-body connection.
This is a low-impact class that’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels, but please do let the instructor know in advance if you have any injuries or other special concerns to work around.
