There’s a reason group cycling classes draw in such a crowd: There’s nothing quite like the endorphin high you get as you sweat through hill climbs, race through intervals, then catch that last gust of tailwind as you zoom toward the finish — all on a specially designed indoor bike that mimics the feel of a true road bike. Group cycling burns an incredible number of calories and builds cardiovascular fitness like nobody’s business, but it’s also low-impact enough for anyone to try.
What to Expect in Your Cycle FITT Class
Come a little early so you can adjust your bike to fit your body, and be dressed to sweat! Fitness leggings or tights are appropriate; avoid anything with loose legs that might get caught in your pedals. You can wear clip-in cycling shoes if you have them, or regular sneakers. One towel might not be enough, so bring a spare and keep that water bottle handy.
Once class starts, your instructor will guide you through a cycling warm-up that gets your body ready for the intense workout to come — then the music cranks up and you’re off! Group cycling’s intensity is part of the fun. Just let yourself fall into a rhythm of the upbeat music and the instructor’s enthusiasm help carry you up imaginary hills, racing across the flats, and even racing to beat your personal best in make-believe timed trials. You control the resistance on your own bike.
Although this is a high-intensity class, it can be adapted to fit almost any fitness level — just let our staff know about your needs in advance. Our Cycle FITT bikes have comfortable seats, and you might be surprised by just how little time you spend sitting in them — but if you’re prone to feeling saddle sore, you can wear padded bike shorts to class.
